Under the Skin (2013)

23:52 Unknown 0 Comments

Hello. What the fuck did I just watch? That is quite the first thought that occurred whilst watching... But there's more to that.

Plot: Umm this one is quite simple, we see a mysterious woman who seduces lonely men.

Cast: Not much really.. Scarlett Johansson. Rest of the cast are actual people shot by hidden cameras, or just insignificant supporting people.

Thoughts: Well, this movie doesn't seem much, but it actually is a very deep and complex piece. If you ever seen "2001: The Space Odyssey" or even "The Enemy" you'll know. These are the films I'd likely compare this one to ( I know it is very ambitious to compare anything to Space Odyssey, but some visions and plot developments reminded me of that movie). I'll get into more details below. Spoilers!

Character development: Ok, firstly - Scarlett's character (presumably) is an alien, send to earth on a mission. At the begging of the movie, we see her sort of changing places with another woman. That means, the lady before her have failed, so Scarlett (she didn't have a name, so I'm calling her that) steps in. Her mission is, well, to seduce and kill men. She has this sort of supervisor, the man on the motorcycle, that somehow knows what she's doing, he takes care of her. Scarlett has no emotions, she just makes small talk with her preys and quietly observes humankind. She sees that people are attracted to pretty things. She wears nice clothes, makeup, while talking to men she always asks "Do you think I'm pretty?". She suddenly feels sorry for one of her victim, lets him go, and that sort of changes her. Now here is when we see a development of her character. She runs away from her supervisor, she tries human food, she feels compassion, even tries sex, but it all kind of feels wrong, she is confused. She must of thought, that these sudden feelings for humans killed the lady before her. She runs away again, until her beauty gets her into trouble. At the end of the movie, she almost gets raped, until the raper accidentally scratches her skin and reveals her true self. Then naturally he is disgusted and scared of her, so he sets her on fire. Sorry, spoilers, told ya. That only proves, that people are shallow and only care of exterior beauty.

What I liked: I loved this movie. It is for those who appreciate true cinema, wants to dig deeper. That kind of movie keeps you at night, makes you think of theories, what it all might have meant. Also, I loved the surrealistic approach, the way of showing how men are being killed. Very aesthetic and artistic. Hidden message about the inside beauty was a nice touch. This kind of movie needs to be analysed as close as it is possible.

What I didn't like: It was slow. And very confusing. You need to see it twice to truly appreciate it. I bet half the people who watched thought that the movie was the biggest waste of time - it made no sense.  No surprise the ratting on IMDB is so low, only 6.3 for this hidden masterpiece.

K-PAX (2001)

18:47 Unknown 0 Comments

You know me, I love myself some good science fiction, I love it even more when it has something to do with aliens. Add mystery and some mental disorder - I'm all yours. That was the case with this movie.

Plot: PROT is a patient in a mental hospital and he claims that he came from a planet called K-PAX. His psychiatrist tries to help with all means possible (yes, even hypnosis) but soon even he starts to doubt his own knowledge and maybe PROT is telling the truth???

Cast: Great Oscar-winning bunch -- Kevin Spacey, brilliant as always. Never lets your down with his performance. Eating a whole banana with its peels 27 times -- now that is a dedication. Jeff Bridges is brilliant as well, tho it was a bit weird for me to see him all so clean, hehe, I mean, not his usual "dude" Belowski self. Shout out to David Patrick Kelly, you sneaky thing, I recognize you from Twin Peaks.

What I liked: This was a very good example of a very complex and multi-layered movie. First, it made you think it was a science-fiction, then it turned into drama and eventually it was a murder mystery. Kudos for keeping an audience interested throughout. Performances were brilliant, A plus cast, what else to expect.
I liked the various supporting characters, with unique and interesting stories as well.

What I didn't like: It made me mad, because, you can try to guess what is happening, like literally explain what is happening, but then movie takes a turn and messes everything up. And then you stand corrected until some new facts are presented and you start to make new conclusions just to be proven wrong again.
I didn't like that a lot of questions were left unanswered or left for interpretation. Like the fact that PROT was able to see ultraviolet (how?) or what happened to poor Bess at the end of the movie?

Thoughts: And eventually, both me and Jeff Bridges' character were left to wonder weather PROT was real or just a friction of imagination. Like multiple personality disorder or some other explainable outcome. Maybe it was actually another person maybe it actually was PROT, just borrowing the body, to be able to do his mission on earth. Again, a lot of "maybies".

Well, I really really enjoyed this piece. Great cast, great story, brilliant performances and plot that just keeps you guessing. 8,5 from me, IMDB it is a little underrated in my opinion - 7,4.

Gattaca (1997)

23:24 Unknown 0 Comments

I'm on a holiday, yay - that means I have plenty of time to watch as much movies as I want! It's only appropriate for the weather we're having - rainy and very much windy. Tho, I've seen a lot during this past week, not much really stood out (tho "Mad Max: Fury Road" was amazing, I feel as I don't really have much to say about it, other then it was a bloody amazing) until I saw this gem.

Plot: Not so distant future - everything is gene driven. Genetically "wrong" Vincent always had a dream to go to space. So he pretends to be Jerome, a genetically perfect person to pursue his dream.

Actors:  I already expressed my admiration to Ethan Hawke, so I'm just gonna repeat myself - he's one bloody good actor. Uma Thurman is gorgeous (no wonder these two became a couple after this movie). Jude Law and Loren Dean gets an honorable mentions.

What I liked: Ok, maybe you've heard this one before, but it is believed to be the most accurate Sci-fi movie ever made. The GMO and other gene mutations - movie suggest that you can create a perfect human being, parents just have to chose best genes for their child.
Oh, and look at those stairs - even they are DNA-shaped. Neet.
Movie had some really really good scenes - like the one, where Vincent blows cigarette smokes into the glass, in order to answer a question "What Titan's like?" (Titan's a satellite of Saturn, the place where Vincent is going for a year). Brilliant and beautiful!
I loved the references throughout the whole movie. The hair-pulling and  the recurring water themes.

What I didn't like: No, movie was brilliant, I have no comments.

Thoughts: The reason, why I selected to talk about this movie amongs the others I saw this week, was because it made me think about the future. And no, I don't see a problem with gene selection, That might be a good thing (let me know that you think.. maybe?).
The people, shown in the movie were very picky about the genes. Obsessed even. It's like the new kind of discrimination. The right ones, the wrongs ones... It seemed, if you were naturally born (your parents didn't choose any genes for you. You were just received the good old fashioned way) the only purpose in life for you was to be a janitor. That's a bit wrong don't you think?
And what shocked me the most was that no one, I mean literally no one, cared what you looked like. Vincent (Ethan Hawke) had Jerome's (Jude Law) face show up in every ID picture. And no one seemed to notice that it's a totally different person. They don't even look alike. Same with others. Vincent didn't even recognize his own brother and father, when they always been around. It seems that the only way to know someone is to pull one's hair and take it to the lab to analyze. The movie suggest that this kind of hair-pulling is going to be the new dating thing in the future. That is just... wrong.

I want to give this movie 8. Maybe 8 and a half, cuz it really touched me, made me think. Those are good kind of movies. IMDB ratting 7.8. And one Oscar nomination. And also NASA approve. And Hawke-Thurman marriage. So..  yeah :)

Nine 1/2 weeks (1986)

22:37 Unknown 0 Comments

I don't know about you, but this movie was BIG in Lithuania. I remember whenever it was on tv, they would make a big deal out of it. Yeah, you know why. I was never into movies like this, but it's a full moon right now and we all feels a bit weird when it's a full moon ( I do not make sense).

Plot: Basically this woman Elizabeth gets involved sexually with a man she just met. Yeah...

Thoughts: So this was based on a book... so basically this was a premise for 50 shades, cuz this was practically the same things. Never read a book, not I intent to, cuz it's just plain dull. Poor woman just gets sucked into this relationship (can I even call it like that??), it's totally female-shaming. Do this do that, put on a blindfold, take of your clothes, crawl. I mean... that is just disgusting. Also, fun fact - there is a sequel, called "Another nine 1/2 weeks" and this time Rourke's character has a last name - John Gray. Rings a bell??

Actors: Hmmm... Kim Basinger and Mickey Rourke. She was just as black as Dakota Johnson in 50 Shades Of Grey. Honestly. Mickey had this creepy smile on his face like the whole movie! They had zero chemistry together. And he looked like young Bruce Willis,

What I liked: Umm.. I liked Kim hairstyle here. Really looked nice...

What I didn't like: Um. Like that fact that he used her like a toy. Like a pet. Bought her stuff. Like super expensive scarf. And call me suspicious, but I know for a fact that you can never give watches as gift for someone. Never. It means, that "I am counting our time together". And eventually the time will run  out. Needless to say they broke up.

IMDB rating - 5.9, but man... This is probably the first movie on this blog that I hated so much. Don't watch it.

The Spectacular Now (2013)

22:39 Unknown 0 Comments

Been a while, as I said before - tv series time right now, tho I feel guilty, that I can't seem to find time for a movie once in a while.

Plot: Sutter Keely lives for a moment. He does not think of future, college or family or whatever. He's vitty, charming, well-meaning guy. He meet Aimee after one black out drunk episode, quickly befriends her, eventually she becomes something more.

Thoughts: Ok, at first I thoughts it's going to be another heartwarming love story, but it was actually very real and down to earth story about, you know, everyday flawed people. Too depressing at time, if you ask me, but very... human. It deals heavily with Sutter's character being an alcoholic, constantly drinking, slowly turning Aimee to an alcoholic as well. I felt really bad for her, for being so naive and trustfull, like, girl, he's sooo wrong for you.

Actors: I've read somewhere, that actors like Shailene Woodley just sort of comes out of nowhere and we are sort of pushed to like them?? I do't know.. I don't find her or even Miles Teller that special. She's cute and sweet and all, but I think it is a very odd choice to make Miles a love interest. I was happy to see the beautiful Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

What I liked: The unexpected tone, that the story was told, like they totally fooled me, by presenting this story as happy and care free. I mean loo at that poster! Doesn't it look nice?
I loved the ambiguous ending, it really could end in every possible way, so that's nice. It can end happily, if you want to.
I loved that the movie proposed some great philosophical thoughts about "living now". Is it really a good thing? Really great coming of age movie. Really captures the teenagers nowadays.

What I didn't like: At parts this movie was really sad and dark, and I don't think I can justify or even explain the actions that some characters did. Some plot points were kind of shaky (that car accident really took me unguarded). So yeah, not that much bad things, huh?

IMDB was very generous this time - 7.2! I'd say I agree, it's like a 7 for me as well.

Crimson Peak (2015)

18:08 Unknown 0 Comments

So, saw this interesting piece last night. Beautiful sets, beautiful actors, breathtaking movie.

Plot: Young aspiring author Edith Cushing meet an exciting charming young gentleman Thomas Sharpe. He initially come to America to find an investor, pursuing Edith's father to be specific, to fund his clay mining machine.  He, and his sister Lucille, lives in an old family house back in England, that is build on a huge hill, that is nothing but red clay. As family gone broke, they seek for a funding, so they can keep the house. Edith eventually marries Thomas, and goes to England, to start a new life on a Crimson Peak.

Actors: TOM HIDDLESTON. Oh, boy do I love him. He's so charming, oh my. And I read, that the part was initially offered to Benedict Cumberbatch. Weh, And Mia Wasikowska is just in her field. Also, thank God, the part didn't go to Emma Stone. That would be weird. Jessica Chastain is just gorgeous. I was surprised to see Jim Beaver, he played Bobby in Supernatural.

What I liked: I loooved the sets. So beautiful. The house, the Crimson Peak is just hauntingly beautiful. I loved little repetitive details - the use of colour red, the butterflies. One of my favourite scenes in the whole movie - the dancing with the candle scene. Guillermo del Toro delivers his signature monsters - beautifully done ghosts. And I feel I must warn you - this is not a ghost story, this is rather story with ghosts in it.
Some parts really made me laugh, to be honest. And I thought this intended to be a horror story. But it is one beautifully done movie. Aesthetically pleasing (and we get so see Hidles' ass. Which is not a bad thing).

What I didn't like: I hated that the main story was so... natural. So explainable and so human. I wanted something out of this word. Even motives were very human. Money, it's  all about money. Sad. Also, I wanted more ghosts :(

IMDB ratted this 7.1. I can see why that kind of rating, cuz after walking out of the cinema, I felt a bit cheated and mislead by trailers and all. Didn't really get what I expected. But on the otherhand, it was beautiful and trilling movie. 7.5.

Spy (2015)

14:15 Unknown 0 Comments

Sorry for absence, been busy with.. everything really. Anyway, kind of stopped watching movies for a while (it's a tv series season). Watched a while ago, but feel like I should at least give it a mention.

Plot: A desk-bound spy Susan, whose job is to sit next to computer, watch other agents on a missions and help them. One day, her partner in the field Brandley gets killed, so she volunteers to go undercover on a field mission. Something she never really done before.

Cast: Some very knows faces in this one, I mean Melissa McCarthy, Jude Law and Jason Statham, to name few. Supporting cast was very strong as well - Rose Byrn and Miranda Hart were great. What I was surprised to see, was Verka Serduchka as herself (east europeans know him/her quite well).

Directing: Paul Feig. A man behind "Bridesmaids" and "Heat". Both with Mellisa. All these movies had similar vibe. All really smart and funny, so I wasn't really surprised.

What I liked: It was a really witty comedy, but packed with spy-movies cliches. Some jokes were better than others. I liked the cast. Oh I looooved Jason Statham. His character was a breath of fresh air. Brilliant. Oh and they briefly played Mika's "Boum boum boum". I love hearing my boy in movies.

What I didn't like: I'm not really a fan of Melissa, she kind of annoys me. Also, there were a scene, where viewers are exposed to a series of photos of fully erect penis, and that kind of set the tone for the rest of the movie. I know it was a sort of parody for Bond movie, but nothing can top "Kingsman: the secret service". That movie was the BOMB. This one was a sometimes-on-point second cousin of it.

IMDB is very generous for this movie - 7,2. It's just a bit above 6 for me. I just praise Statham's crazy performace, as it was the best thing about this movie.

Going to see "Crimson Peak" in cinemas today, hopefully I'm gonna love it!

Parer Towns (2015)

22:20 Unknown 0 Comments

I was never really excited about this one, but I kin d of enjoyed "The Fault In Our Stars", so I thought I might spend my evening with another creation by John Green.

Plot: Quentin and Margo were childhood friends, that sort of grew apart, but on night, Margo burst into the Quentin's room at night, asking him to go on an adventure with her. It was fun night at all, but the next morning Margo goes missing... Quentin stars seeing these little clues, from Margo, about her whereabouts.

Actors: If you've seen "Fault in our stars". also witten but John Green, you might find some fimiliar faces. Like the main protagonist Nat Wolff. Also, I was really excited to see Ansel Elgort, just for a brief moment. The way they introduced him, was like an Easter Egg for hardcore fans. Hehe, kudos me for catching the reference. Also, unpopular opinion - Cara Delevingne is like the plainest looking girl ever. Like.. seriously...

What I liked: I loved how all the guys, boys and girls, in the movie, actually looked like 18year-olds. Like, not adults yet, just normal regular age. That was really refreshing. Also music was great (they played my lovely Vampire Weekend's "Taxi Cab", oh and HAIM's "Falling". Lovely).
Also, the road trip was bad ass. Me, I just received my driving license, I am afraid to ride around my own hometown, I would never have gone to a road trip like that.
I liked Quentin's buddies, great comic relief in otherwise kind of boring movie.
I did not read the book, as I was doing with "Fault in our Stars", I trusted the direction, because "Fault in our Stars" movie was really close to the book, so I guess I din't miss much, tho I read the book's ending was a bit different.
I liked that this wasn't a traditional rom-com, not even that romantic at all. It was more of a coming of age tale.

What I didn't like: Nat Wolff was a bit awkward... He's cute and all, but I think his awkwardness was kind of annoying. His character was kind of plain and unrealistic to me. Other characters had a great progression over the movie, even Margo gets some closure, but Quentin kind of stayed the same. N character development at all. I din't like Cara's performance, as I said, the plainest looking girl ever.

Other than that, I did enjoyed the last outcome of this movie. Pretty enjoyed it at parts as well. So, I'd give it a 7. IMDB, tho, 6,7. Looking forward which next John Green's book will get an adaptation.

Inside Out (2015)

20:51 Unknown 0 Comments

I was so hyped about this movie ever since I first heard about it! Such a interesting unique idea from pixar. Another great hit!

Plot: It's a story about little girl named Riley and her emotions. There is Joy, Sadness, Disgust, Fear and Anger. They all live in Riley's head and are responsible for her emotions. They make memories, form Riley's personality and just generally wants her to be happy. Joy is dominant emotion. But when Riley and her family moves from Minnesota to San Francisco, Sadness sort of stars to kick in, and Joy is not very happy about it.

Cast: So many unique and wonderful people worked on this piece! Like Amy Poehler for Joy or Mindy Kaling for Disgust - that is just perfect! I really enjoyed Phyllis Smith (she is from The Office, in case you're wondering), she was perfect! Bunch of great names as well as Bill Hader, Kyle MacLachlan etc!

What I liked: Where do I start??? How SMART was that movie? Wow, the authors considered every little detail about human emotions, brain, thoughts... everything! How does memory works, how are they formed? What emotion do they reflect? Imagination, dreams, and, the sad part, how human brain deletes lots of memories, lots of moments, imaginary friends... Some really, really smart and educated people worked on this and it makes me soooo happy.
Also it was cool, that every emotion was reflecting something, like, Joy was supposed to look like star, Sadness like tear drop, Anger like a brick, Disgust like broccoli and Fear as nerve (see the poster above).
I loved how they produced brain. There they had subconsciousness dungeons; dreams productions, with scripts and actors and everything Hollywood-ish; Thought trains; personality islands; little brain workers that dispose old memories; even imaginary boyfriends... ahh so perfect!

What I didn't like: I hated that Joy was so dominant! She was everywhere! Every memory has to be happy according to her! She didn't like if it was anything else. Give other emotions a chance! They are important as well. The message of this movie was suppose to be, that it is ok to be sad sometimes, not to be happy all the time. IT IS OK! We need all kind of memories, all kind of things in our lives!
Also, I may or may not cries during this. Yeah...

IMDB ratting - 8.5, but it was so good, I might raise to 9.5. Yup, that good.
And this is really cool thing, that shows how emotions overlaps.

12 Monkeys (1995)

20:49 Unknown 0 Comments

I had this movie in my so called collection forever. But I never seemed to find time to actually sit down and watch. I mean, I love science fiction and all, just didn't seem appealing.

Plot: Some unknown virus has killed entire population, with only 1% survivors that now lives underground. World is dominated by animals again. A convict played by Bruce Willis is sent back to 1996, to gather information about the virus, so the scientist in the future can study it. Sadly, he is sent back to 1990, where he is put into mental institution.

Actors: Great assembly is called. Bruce Willis was a bit flat for my taste (except for one scene where he hears music on the radio, then he was genuinely happy and it reflected), but, for example, Brad Pitt was right on top. He is an amazing actor, and he just proves it with every role he takes.

Thoughts: First of all, how amazing is that logo? SO COOL. I've been staring at it forever and still can't comprehend how much I like it! Also something stuck with me after I finished watching the movie -- the constant perception of hoax. Everything was hoax - the report about little boy stuck in a well turned out to be hoax, the army of 12 monkeys eventually turned out to be hoax as well. So it made me think, if the whole future wasn't a hoax as well?

What I liked: I'm just a sucker for time-travel stuff. Don't ask me about Doctor Who, I mean that show is my life. If time travel would be possible now, I'd be the first in line.
I loved Brad Pitt's performance. Holly shit that dude can act! Fun fact, he received and Oscar nomination for this movie, well deserved!
Also loved that at one point in the movie, characters went to the cinema and there where Hitchcock movie marathon, scenes from Vertigo and such. Vertigo is such a classy fucked up movie, I rejoiced!
Oh, and I love this fact from back stage -- the director, Terry Gillian, gave a list to Bruce Willis titled "Things Bruce Willis does when he is acting" and the list ended with a note "please don't do any of the above in my movie".

What I didn't like: How cheap the whole movie and production felt. And it fact, the whole production lacked funding, some actors didn't get paid at all (it is said that was due a chance to work with Terry Gillian, the director). For a massive movie like that, I would wanted to have at least decent looking.. everything.

IMDB ratting - 8.1. Kinda cool, brilliant story, even more brilliant performances (by some). Also I love the fact, that there is a new tv show build around this movie. Not sure, if I'm gonna watch it, I just appreciate the fact.

Old School (2003)

22:53 Unknown 0 Comments

Been a while, hello. Back with some old school stuff, quite literally. I'm surprised that I haven't actually seen this one before, cuz I've heard a lot about it, and it's like one of those classical and definitely must see collage movies.

Plot: Three long time friends, jus living their lives... One is married, with children, one is getting freshly married and one catches his girlfriend in an orgy. Yeah. So their buy a cheep house, that happens to be on a university campus and kind of stars a ... fraternity.

Actors: What a great bunch! Luke Wilson was always the best looking of all three Wilson brothers, to be honest, tho, whenever he said "wow", all I could see was Owen, ha! And Will Ferrell! He does brilliant body-comedy. Within first 20 minutes we see him bare-ass streaking, so.

References: Call me crazy, but this movie was a bit of a Fight Club rip-off. FB is my ALL TIME FAVOURITE MOVIE. I'tend to watch it at least couple of times every year, I lost the count how many times I've seen it, so naturally, I draw some similarities. Like that all fraternity thing. There is one leader (Luke Wilsonç character), everyone calls him "Sir", he gives out little assignments for his followers, they get some basement fighting going on, and the leader even gets free food at diners.

What I liked: Oh man, towards the climax of the movie, I caught myself thinking "Oh man, I really enjoy this, what a great movie". Great performances, silly, funny movie. No cheesy rom-com stuff, tho the main lead had a love interest, but they kept it classy, so I liked that. I also won't call this coming of a age movie, since they were grown ass men. It had so many cult-classic moment - the streaking scene, the funeral, angry prep speech in the lockers. Ahh, classic!

IMDB only ratted this 7.2 and I have to say boo, this deserves more, 8 at least. Such a great movie!

Working Girl (1988)

23:29 Unknown 0 Comments

I just love old movies, ok? Not that I hate new ones, but there is just something about the old ones, that is just so... dare I say fresh? New and not spoiled. Or at least not re-used in cinema these days.

Thoughts: So first I heard of this movie, actually, from "Bob's Burgers" (if you don't know what that is, first of all - how dare you, seconds - it is like one of the best animated series of our generation). So, the Belcher kids' were doing musical in their school, they couldn't decide - "Working Girl" or "Die Hard". They kind of mashed both, but it was hilarious --

Plot: This girl, Tess McGill, goes from job to job, working for biggest idiots, until she lands a job for Katherine Parker. Now she never had a lady boss, so it's a bit of a cat-fight behind smiles. Tess pitched an innocent businesses idea for Katherine, she just laughs it off and everything goes back to normal. Until Katherine broke her foot in the skiing accident and asks Tess to take care of some stuff. While attending Katherine's place, she finds out that  Katherine tried to pass Tess' idea as hers. Tess is mad and decides to work on her own, by.. pretending to have Katherine's job.

Actors: Now this has a very high class cast. Melanie Griffith (I didn't even recognize her, until she cut her hair in the movie. And she does look a lot like Molly Ringwald then), she was soooo flat and boring. Gosh, emotionless doll. Seemed like she was reading her lines, like doing an SNL sketch.  Then it had always lovely Sigourney Weaver. Now she is top class, flawless. The main love interested was performed by Harrison Ford (not very believable if you ask me). A shout-out to lovely Alec Baldwin and Joan Cusack (was surprised not to see John Cusack  as they seem to share movies all the time). Oh and, David Duchovny, did you honestly thought no one gonna notice you standing there in the background? Yeah, guess again.. ;D

What I liked: It was woman-power time! Girls can do business! Girls can be smart! Girls can have ideas! Yay for that that. You go girls. The whole uplifting atmosphere of this movie was like a breath of fresh air. Loooved the soundtrack, the main song ""Let the river run" won an Oscar, so. And Joan Cusack. She was just adorable. Honestly, one of the best supporting actress out there.

What I didn't like: Have you seen the fashion in 80s??? Mullets? Baggy clothes? Make-up? Yeah. That. And Harrison Ford as a love interest? Oh my... well, maybe he was something(=hot) after the Star Wars, but that was back in 70s (I just checked IMDB, and yes, this is the only romantic lead mr Ford done, ever. So I was right about that one.) Seriously. Alec Baldwin was so much better looking back then.

IMDB rating - 6,7. Yeah, I agree, 6 is decent rating for a rom-com that this is. Though, it stood the test of time and now is considered somewhat a cult-classic as well.

Misery (1990)

23:27 Unknown 0 Comments

Sorry for being a bit delayed, after that The X Files movie, my everlasting love for the show was revived, so I spend most of the time being caught up with season 6. And some medicare films that doesn't need any attention (eheh Wonder-lust...ehem).

Plot: One famous writer, Paul Sheldon, gets into nasty snowstorm on his way to show his newest book to his publicist. He was rescued barely alive by his number one fan - Annie Wilkes. She used to be a nurse, so she saves him, nurtured him, until the snowstorm ends, so she can take him to the hospital. She stumbles across the new book, ask to read it and... she hates the ending. Her favourite character in the book, called Misery, dies in the childbirth. Annie is furious, she burns the book and demands Paul to write a new book, where Misery is alive.

Writing and directing: Ok, this piece was written by Stephen King. Well, book was. Now you know,  I respect Mr. King, since he has done a looooot, but I was never a fan. I tried reading his books once, but man oh man, something wasn't right. I dunno, it didn't click for me. Same with movies based on his books. I watched "Shinning" just because of its cult status and "Carrie" was just a mess. Even the praised "Shawshanks Redemption". Oh, tho I have one exception - "1408" movie. That one was gooood.
I was surprised, that movie was directed by Rob Reiner. I mean, the guy is known for his romantic movies - "The Princes Bride" and obviously "When Harry met Sally...", or if you still don't know him, he played Jessie's father on "New Girl" series.

Title: I love how ambiguous it is! One, of course, it is the name of Annie's favourite character, and seconds, it was the constant state of Paul Sheldon, being held prisoner in Annie's house.

What I loved: Kathy Bates' performance was so on point! No wonder she won an Oscar for it. Brilliant. I loved how she was totally calm one minute and then total psycho the next. Even the King was so impressed with her, he wrote to more books with Bates in mind. Now that's talent.
Also I loved, how, again, ambiguous the atmosphere of the movie was. It started of with upbeat romantic music, creating the atmosphere of fun and light movie. Also the sights, bright colours, Annie's lovely house - you wouldn't except it to end so gory. Don't get me wrong - I love it gory.

What I didn't like: It was a bit slow, and by slow I mean, Paul spend a lot of time in that cabin of Annie's, but we never really know how much. It was mentioned at one point, that it was weeks, but it felt more. Years even.
Also, these kind of obsessive movies, really makes me think of those people who claim to be someone's "Number One fan". What would they do, if, say, Harry Styles stumbles across them. Would they let him go?

MDB rating is 7,8. Well... I think it deserves more than that, 8,2 atleast. Cuz honestly, it had its moments. Like for that part, that you can see picture above. Uuuuh, chills.

The X Files: Fight the Future (1998)

I've been wanting to do this for a very long time. I absolutely love The X Files, and I impatiently watched 5 season to get to this. Yum yum.

Plot: Ok, so a little back story to understand this better -- the 5th season of TXF was supposed to be the last one. It ended with The X Files department being shut down and all the files that went under the letter "X" were destroyed in fire. This movie begins with Mulder and Scully being in a field again, but doing the boring job - defusing bombs and such. In one accident like that, a huge government building was blown up, supposedly empty, but it was discovered later, that three men and a young boy died during the incident. Later when Scully does the autopsy on one of the body's, she discovers that they actually died from some kind of unknown virus. Government tried to cover their tracks by destroying the bodies in the bombing incident. The virus is, of course, extraterrestrial, and what it does, it grows an alien inside the host. So, basically, if the virus spreads, the whole new population of aliens will devour human nature. Mulder is on top of this, but Scully have had enough, she filed the papers to quit FBI and start over.... until the infected bee stings her and she is taken away. Yes, you guessed it, only Mulder can save her.

Thoughts: This was such a cool sci fi movie, oh my. Even CGI was amazing, as of the 90s movie. I'm such a huge fan of the show and this was just epic. It helped that I've seen the first 5 seasons of this, as the movie was full of already known characters and references, but if you haven't seen them, you'd still get it, cuz it was totally new story and a new adventure.

What I liked: Mulder and Scully (David and Gillian) have such a natural chemistry together, I just love it. I mean, everybody knows that they fell in love the moment they saw each other, and they are very subtle and umm professional about it, and watching their sexual tension is always amusing. I feel like the writers of this movie took that romance between them little farther as we almost(!) had a kiss.
Mulder and Scully are just good characters, so well written. Gosh. It even makes me mad, that characters these days on tv are not as good developed and written.
I love how Mulder gets all hot-headed when he is talking about "finding the truth". And aliens! Finally! The tv show was always so subtle about them, Mulder never really had a real encounter with them and finally! Aaaah!!

What I didn't like: Ok, this movie was like a candy for fans, but honestly, it was just long long episode. Which I'm cool with! Give me more!! Also, since Mulder is believe and Scully is skeptic, Mulder always sees these cool things, like a real spaceship flies literally 2 feet above his head, is it literally there, and Scully isn't looking! Like, look up, raise your head up, god dammit!!!

IMDB rating - 6.9. It was a good movie, common. At least 7.5. This movie was a perfect jumping point, as at the end of the movie it is announced that the X Files department is re-opened. I still have 4 seasons left, another movie and yes - the revival of the series next year. More Mulder and Scully please.
